How far was Tiger Woods’ fall from grace? By the numbers, about 60 spots in the World Golf Rankings over the past two and a half years. But, with his win at Bay Hill last weekend, he’s now won 6 of the last 20 PGA tournaments he’s entered and has taken back his #1 world golf ranking. And, he’s only 6 wins shy of breaking Sam Snead’s all-time PGA tour wins record of 82. Love Tiger or hate him, it’ll be good to have the Master back at Augusta in two weeks.

With every new story about debt bailouts, credit rating downgrades or austerity measures, I’m left wondering, how are all these stories going to end? And when? The people of Cyprus got a glimpse this week, when they were hastily told their savings would be taxed 7-10%. That plan, now rescinded, didn’t actually fix the Cyprus debt problem: it was just intended to raise $6 billion Euro’s so they could borrow $10 billion more … crazy.
I wish we could find a way to tax the retirement savings of the government politicians, regulators and bankers who get us into these jams. Imagine how much better the decision-making would be today, if they had to pay twice as much as the rest of us tomorrow, for poor oversight. Never hurts to have a little skin in the game.

What happens in conclave, stays in conclave … for oh, about 600 years. Ironically, you could say the same thing about Vegas. Wonder how long before someone in Vegas launches a Vatican City casino, that releases different coloured smoke when someone wins big … probably not 600 years.

Looking forward to picking up our new Toyota Rav 4 tomorrow. It’s been 2 long months since the old one was stolen off our driveway while we slept and it’s been pretty bumpy getting it replaced. Insurance and car companies are so siloed these days that the right hand clearly doesn’t know what the left hand is doing … for that matter, sometimes the right hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. Whether it was the StateFarm Claim department or the StateFarm Agents, Toyota Credit Canada or the Toyota Dealership, you’d never know these guys play on the same teams.
Ironically, the only people who gave us the straight goods and quietly went about their business were the police. They told us our vehicle had been targeted and that it would be packed onto a container ship headed overseas. And that’s exactly where they found it – on a container ship, half-way across Canada in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. I just wish they’d found it 1 week earlier, before we’d settled with all those other guys. Certainly didn’t feel like those guys had our best interests at heart. Oh well, after tomorrow, I guess all that grief will finally be in the rear view mirror.

They say a dog is ‘man’s best friend’, but for 3 or 4 days every Winter, when the snow falls really deep, wet and heavy like it did this past week, I have to give my vote to my old rusty snowblower. Poor thing looked more like a slush extruder Wednesday morning, than a snowthrower. But that 12-year old beast kept chugging along until the entire driveway was all clear. Amazing. If you’re ever looking for an unusual gift for yourself or someone else that just keeps on giving, consider a snowblower: loves your back, unconditionally.
