Muse: Legal Copy Gone Wild

Received a 1 sentence email from a friend today suggesting we grab lunch … followed by 15 lines of email legal copy from Rogers. Really? I can tell you what should be ‘strictly prohibited’ … how about the tail wagging the dog …

Muse: Hockey’s Tough on Older Teams

Sad to see a couple more guys from my hockey team hang up the skates for good this year. Seems like we lose a player or two every season these days – actually had to merge two teams together just to play this Fall. While retirement from work may be regarded as the start of an exciting new chapter, retirement from hockey is one chapter I’m not in any rush to finish. Live large while you can, I figure.

Muse: Technology … from far-fetched to familiar in 40 years

Hard to imagine it’s only been 40 years since the first mobile phone call was made and only 30 years since the first mobile phones were sold in stores. Cell phones, personal computers and internet technology have become so pervasive since then, it makes you wonder what other seemingly far-fetched ideas will become commonplace 40 years from today … like privately funded Space Tourism … maybe not so crazy after all.

Muse: Good Grief, our new Toyota Rav 4 is finally here

Looking forward to picking up our new Toyota Rav 4 tomorrow. It’s been 2 long months since the old one was stolen off our driveway while we slept and it’s been pretty bumpy getting it replaced. Insurance and car companies are so siloed these days that the right hand clearly doesn’t know what the left hand is doing … for that matter, sometimes the right hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. Whether it was the StateFarm Claim department or the StateFarm Agents, Toyota Credit Canada or the Toyota Dealership, you’d never know these guys play on the same teams.

Ironically, the only people who gave us the straight goods and quietly went about their business were the police. They told us our vehicle had been targeted and that it would be packed onto a container ship headed overseas. And that’s exactly where they found it – on a container ship, half-way across Canada in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. I just wish they’d found it 1 week earlier, before we’d settled with all those other guys. Certainly didn’t feel like those guys had our best interests at heart. Oh well, after tomorrow, I guess all that grief will finally be in the rear view mirror.

Muse: My Favourite Unfair-Weather Friend

They say a dog is ‘man’s best friend’, but for 3 or 4 days every Winter, when the snow falls really deep, wet and heavy like it did this past week, I have to give my vote to my old rusty snowblower. Poor thing looked more like a slush extruder Wednesday morning, than a snowthrower. But that 12-year old beast kept chugging along until the entire driveway was all clear. Amazing. If you’re ever looking for an unusual gift for yourself or someone else that just keeps on giving, consider a snowblower: loves your back, unconditionally.
